Staff member Melaine Banyard took a quick trip to Singapore so she could test out Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas sister ship to the Ovation of the Seas who will be making her way to Australia in November 2016.
We asked her a few questions of her time on board.
What was your first impression of the ship?
What room type did you have and how did you like it?
We travelled with two friends and two of our older children so we decided to try the interconnecting interior rooms with a virtual balcony. The room had a queen bed and a double sofa lounge as well as a virtual balcony that shows live images from cameras around the ship. Our friends screen was placed at a different part of the ship so we both had different views. I loved this feature. I could keep the screen on during the night so in the morning I knew when the sun was up. We didn’t feel squished with three adults in each cabin but I have to say I was super impressed with how comfy the beds were. I could have spent a whole day just hanging on my bed if I didn’t have so many other things I had to fit into three days.
We understand Quantum of the Seas has dynamic dining. How does that work and how did you find it?
Big and beautiful….She is impressive from the outside but from the moment we stepped onboard I was in love. When you hear a cruise ship is like a hotel at sea than I think Quantum of the Seas qualifies as a resort at sea. I think some of the images show you what I mean.

We understand Quantum of the Seas has dynamic dining. How does that work and how did you find it? I do enjoy the main dining room for my meals and always choose late dining as it suits us. Dynamic dining is different in that you have the option of different restaurants to choose from and have a greater variation of the time you go to your meal so if you are someone who finds 6pm too early but 8pm to late you can choose somewhere in between.
I decided we would pre book all our meals in the complimentary restaurants prior to boarding the ship. It was actually quite fun deciding what, where and when we were going to eat. I did enjoy dynamic dining as you had so many different options for dining to choose from and all the restaurants are top notch. I did here fantastic reports on Jamie’s Italian and Wonderland the gastronomy restaurant available for a surcharge. I would highly recommend you pre book as much of your dining as you can when you do your online cruise personaliser.
What did you think of the onboard activities?
There are so many onboard activities to choose from that 3 nights on board was just not enough to do everything. I chose not to have a go at Ifly but I pre booked my husband, son and friend for their one minute complimentary go. It is a must to pre book this activity to ensure you get a go because it is extremely popular and I can see why. We loved the sports complex especially the bumper cars!!!

The flow rider is a fantastic place to hang even if it is just for people watching. The staff are amazingly helpful regardless of the skill level. One of our favourite night time hang outs was the Music Hall. This is the place to dance the night away be it the 70’s disco, silent disco or just rocking out to the live band. You can never get bored on the Quantum. The Quantum has a 67 metre outdoor poolside movie screen, a glass canopied adults only solarium and a retractable roof indoor pool with disabled access.I have to say that I loved my trip on the Quantum of the Seas and look forward to her sister ship arriving in Australia in 2016. It is a ship that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. I would say that Quantum class of ships are a destination in itself, the exciting ports they visit are just a bonus.
